Juan Fernández Islands

Is a small island archipelago off the coast of Central Chile.

Understand

The islands consist of Robinson Crusoe Island, Alejandro Selkirk Island and Santa Clara Island, with the entirety of their small population residing on Robinson Crusoe Island. Principal economic activity for the community of around 600 consists of spiny lobster fishing and to a much smaller extent tourism, with several hundred tourists making the obscure islands a vacation destination. The rugged, mountainous islands are quite attractive, but you won’t find white sand beaches, and the water is much colder than the weather might indicate, owing to the northerly Humboldt Current.
